Scott Lassey is the Next Pelé
Sports
My name is Scott Lassey and I'm sport's crazy. I am into soccer, baseball, basketball, track and field, and football. I played on the
Livermore Impact Class 1 Team in 1997 for outdoor soccer and for
Indoor Soccer at
Off The Wall Soccer in Santa Clara. In 1998 I was the captain of the
Pythons U14
Traveling Team. I played for the
Livermore Nitro U-15 Class1
Team in 1999, but moved to Willits, Ca. in August of 1999. I played on the JV team for Willits High School and was the leading goal/assists leader and was nominated MVP striker by my teammates. I was bumped up to the Varsity squad because of my talents after they started the NCS Championships. We made it to the Quarter Finals, but unfortunately we lost to Head Royce of Oakland 3-2 in double overtime.
I played baseball for 4 years and got on the all-star team twice. I stopped playing baseball because I got on a traveling team which ran through most of the year. I miss it a little, but I think I will turn out better if I focus on the sport I do best at. Even though I don't play on a basketball team, I play basketball at school and have been considering joining the High School Team this year. I can't play football for the high school because it conflicts with the soccer season, but because my friends say that I have good moves and great hands - I might consider the idea. They know that I am really quick and fast and think that I would be the starting wide receiver.
I was on the St. Michael's track team in 1997 and 1998 and won 34 first place ribbons, 18 second place ribbons and 6 third place ribbons. At the Championship meet for my district, I got 4 silver medals and at the Diocese Finals in Oakland I got a gold medal in the 4 x 100 relay by beating a team that won the past three years. St. Michael's were Champions both years concluding their fifth straight Diocese Championship.
My Life
I am a Sophomore at Willits High School and have been enjoying meeting new people and making new friends. I was born in Willits on November 19th, 1984, but moved to Livermore in 1988. Over the years I have made many valuable friends in Livermore and I'm missing them every day. I live in Willits and have a sister, and a nephew. My mother died on May 21st, 1992 when I was 7 years old. I haven't cried about her death probably because I was too young to understand the significance of having no mother. Even though Willits is know for its marijuana I have successfully been able to stay away from all drugs and alcohol - probably due to the fact that I'm an athlete. I have no clue where I will go to college, but I hope to get a full scholarship to the University of California Santa Clara.
Pelé
I will never consider myself as great as Pelé, but he has been my idol ever since I saw him. I have Pelé skills and my teammates as well as classmates call me Pelé due to the fact. He is the greatest player ever and my favorite soccer player eventhough he played for Brazil instead of the United States. He has been my idol and role model for a long time now. Pelé played in four World Cups: Sweden 1958, Chile 1962, England 1966, and Mexico 1970. He scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup matches.
"How do you spell Pelé? G-O-D." The Sunday Times, London newspaper.
Once he even stopped a war in Nigeria: A 48-hour armistice was signed with Biafra so that both sides could go watch Pelé play a round of exhibition matches. Pelé is the only person to have won three World Cups as a player, and scored 1,281 (or 1284) goals in 1,363 professional games, which is probably the all-time scoring record in soccer.
Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Três Corações, Brazil, Pelé was noted for his powerful kicking and skillful ball control and for his brilliant passing and field strategy. He joined the Santos Football Club in 1956, and in 1962 he led the team to its first world club championship. By 1970 he had scored his 1000th goal amazingly on November 19th (my Birthday), becoming the most prolific goal-scorer in history. By 1974,
when he retired for the first time, Pelé had scored 1200 goals in 1253 games and had become a Brazilian national hero. From 1975 to 1977 he came out of retirement to play with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League, leading them to a league championship in 1977. Pelé's contract with the Cosmos made him the highest-paid athlete in the world at the time. He is credited with popularizing soccer in the United States. After his subsequent retirement in 1977, Pelé became an international ambassador for the
sport, working to promote peace and understanding through friendly athletic competition.
