Simplot Turkey Tournament
SUMMARY:
The Impact came close to getting into the final for this
tournament. They dominated the game against Manteca and went
into the game against Capital Valley with confidence. They held
the finalists to a tie and were unlucky to lose in the last few
minutes against Delta Crunch
Livermore Impact vs Manteca
At 8am, on a very cold, wet, misty, Manteca morning the Livermore
Impact took on tournament host, Manteca Rangers United. Players
had a hard time keeping their footing on the slippery field and
it took several minutes for them to adjust. The Impact took the
lead about ten minutes into the game when a corner from John
Mello found the head of Scott Lassey who placed it neatly over
the keepers head. They didn't look back and scored another
before half time, again from a John Mello corner. This time it
was Kaelen Schlicker who found the back of the net. Seamus
Lennon played very well in the second half and was in the right
place at the right time during goal mouth scrambles. Seamus
scored twice to make it 4-0 for the Impact. This was an
excellent performance by the Impact especially since they were
missing two players.
Goals by: Scott Lassey, Kaelen Schlicker, Seamus Lennon - 2
Assists: John Mello
Result: Livermore Impact 4, Manteca 0
Livermore Impact vs Capital Valley
Livermore lost 4-0 the last time they played Capital Valley but
today it was a different story. The Impact fought hard and came
back twice to earn a 2- 2 tie. It was a lobsided physical game.
Livermore were awarded thirteen free kicks and gave away only
three - one of which was a penalty - and goalkeeper, Andrew
Dubatowka saved it. Jared Jamison, again, showed his goal
scoring prowess with a goal in each half and marcus Richerson had
some good saves in the second half. After two games the Impact
were leading the division with a maximum point shut out and a
tie.
Goals by: Jared Jamison - 2
Result: Livermore Impact 2, Capital Valley 2
Livermore Impact vs Delta Crunch
Expectations were high as the Impact faced the Delta Crunch in
their final division game. The Crunch had lost to Blackhawk 5-2
and beaten Manteca 1-0 so the Impact certainly had a good chance
to win the division and make the final. A tie would give them a
place in the consolation game. It was a tense game, played in
light to heavy rain. The Impact took the lead in the first half
with a goal from John Mello and were definitely the dominant
team. Early in the second half the Crunch equalized and from
then on it was tense back and forth action - both teams obviously
tired in the heavy conditions. Adam Davies came so close to
putting the Impact ahead with a hard shot that hit the crossbar
about five minutes from the end of the game. It was the Crunch,
however, who prevailed within the final minute of the game and
eliminated Livermore from both the final and consolation games
with 17 points to Livermore's 16.
Goals By: John Mello
Result: Livermore Impact 1, Delta Crunch 2
