Stockton Classic
Livermore Impact vs Stockton
The Livermore Impact U13 A/C team opened their season at the
Stockton Classic Tournament with a tough game against tournament
favorites Stockton Pride. The Impact started well and gave up a
single goal in the first half. The second half was more
eventful. The Stockton Pride scored another three but the Impact
made their first goal when Dustin Silva trapped the ball at the
half way line and hit a long ball past defenders for Jason
Moitoso to run onto. Jason was very cool as he took the ball to
the keeper, lobbed it surgically over him and into the net.
Motivation seems key to the team - coach Glen Silva, perhaps
searching for sponsors was clearly heard to remind his team that
"This is NOT a Kodak Moment" which brought many laughs from
Impact supporters.
Result: Stockton 4, Livermore Impact 1
Goals by: Jason Moitoso
Livermore Impact vs Capital Valley
The Impact worked hard to stop the Capital Valley Blackhawks but
were outplayed. A second own goal didn't help the Impact (the
first was against Stockton) and it was clear that the team had to
regroup.
Result: Capital Valley 4, Livermore Impact 1
Livermore Impact vs Manteca
The Livermore Impact dominated this game. Weird and wacky goals
for Manteca distorted the result. Goals came thick and fast in
the first half. Seamus Lennon scored first and followed up with
an excellent shot a few minutes later. The keeper was unable to
hold onto the ball and Jason Moitoso was in the right place at
the right time to tap the ball in. The Manteca Rangers replied a
few moments later to pull one back. An excellent corner from
Seamus Lennon went straight to John Mello who made it 3-1. The
Impact defense was caught off guard twice as the half approached.
Tow breakaways for the Manteca Rangers resulted in two more goals
and the half ended 3-3. There was an intensity about the
Livermore Impact attack in the second half. Manteca were
frustrated and tried everything to defend. They went too far and
several minutes into the second half gave up a penalty. Jared
Jamison struck the ball well and hit the back of the net. Impact
defenders held the Rangers at bay and only in the final moments
of the game seemed vulnerable. It was tense for a few minutes
but the final whistle blew and the Impact had won their first
game.
Result: Livermore Impact 4, Manteca 3
Goals by: Seamus Lennon, Jason Moitoso, John Mello, Jared Jamison
SUMMARY:
The Impact came in third in the division. Stockton won with 30,
Capital Valley second with 22, Impact 3rd with 11 and Manteca
last with 4. Seamus Lennon was outstanding. His penetrating
runs, long accurate corners, and skill were very evident in all
three games and especially in the win over Manteca. Jared
Jamison has skill, consistency, and in mid-field is perhaps the
pivot to lever the Impact to more goals. Marcus Richerson
anchors the defence.
