Rachel Schaffner, 8th grade was outstanding with firsts in the 200 and 400 meters, high jump and 4x100 relay.
St Michael athletes won nine first places in the field events. Eric Stafford won the 4th grade long jump with 11' 10", Chris Simmons the 5th grade with 11' 9 1/2", Brianna Scheff, 6th with 12' 6 1/2", 7thgrader Chris Kouls with 15' 0" , 8th graders Trista Cassella with 13' 8 1/2" and Chris Bennett with 13' 5 1/2". Brittany Farmr won the 6th grade softball throw with a throw of 97' and in the high jump 6thgrader Richard Hudson with 4' 10" and 8th grader Rachel Schaffner with 4' 8". In the Shot Put 7thgrader Ozell Hudson II won with a throw of 31' 10" and 8th graders Crystal Young with a throw of 26' 10" and Daniel Hoover with 33' 11".
St Michael's won 30 second and 30 third places.
In the field events Kayelani Hudson was second in the 2nd grade long jump with 5' 5", 5th graders Kelly Stevelak was second with 10' 8 1/2", Jacob Farmer second with 11' 3 3/4" and Andrew Wilson won with a jump of 11' 3 3/4", Scott Lassey took second place in the 8th grade with 15' 9 1/4". Christopher Ellis was second in the 2nd grade softball throw with 57' 10", 4th grader Derek Lyons was second with 88' 7" , Brittany Farmer second with 92' 1" in the 6th grade, Matt Bingaman second in the 7th grade with 119.9" and Rhine Ramirez was the winner ot the 7th grade event with 128' 8". In the high jump 6th grader Richard Hudson won with 4' 4", 7th graders Sam Copeman won with 4' 2" and 8th grader Rachel Schaffner won with 5' 1". St Michaels took two first places in the shot put, 7th grader Matt Bingaman with a throw of 31' 3 3/4" and 8th grader Stephanie Scheff won with 25' 6 1/2", Rhine Ramirez was second in the 7th grade event with 30' 6".
Richard Hudson II and Rachel Shaffner were the stars. Both of them won three events. Richard Hudson II won the 100m, 200m and the high jump and Rachel Shaffner won the 200m, 400m and the high jump.
In heats of the 50 meters 2nd grade winners were Andrea Gil with 8.61 and Kayelani Hudson with 9.05 and Gabrilella Carabello was second with 9.65, 3rd grader Nick Lavezzo was second in 8.47, 4th grader Jacquelyn Cairel won with 8.31 and second places went to Kendra Cover with 8.61 and Neil Spettel in 7.79, 5th grader Jacob Farmer won with 7.88 and second places went to Kelly Stevelak in 8.25 and Martin Galindez in 8.08. In heats of the 100 meters all three 2nd graders won their races, Gabrilella Carabello in 18.51, Kayelani Hudson in 18.53 and star of the meet, Andrea Gil competed in the 3rd grade race and won in 16.45, 4th grader Jacquelyn Cairel won in 15.83 and Darryl Mullikin was second in 15.07, Jacob Farmer , 5th grade came in second at 15.16, 6th grader Richard Hudson II won in 12.29, Brianna Scheff was second in 15.05, Ozell Hudson II won the 7th grade in 12.92 and Sam Coperman was second in 14.66 in 8th grade Khadijah Al-Faraj was second in 14.28. In the 4x100 meter relay the 4th grade boys won in 1.02.32, the 8th grade girls won in 56.25 and the 8th grade boys won in 51.75, second places went to the 5th grade boys in their fastest time this year of 1.00.06 and 6th grade girls. The 3rd grade boys ran their fastest time this year and came in third with 1.15.36. In the 200 meters 4th grader Darryl Mullikin won in 30.79, 6th grader Brittany Farmer was second in 31.99 and Richard Hudson II won in 30.45, 8th graders Rachel Schaffner was first in 28.59 and Chris Bennet won in an excellent time of 24.87, second place went to Khadijah Al-Faraj in 30.00.
In the 400 meters 3rd grader Nick Lavezzo was second in 1.22.33, Robert Knorr won 4th grade, 6thgrader Krysten Bockover won in 1.12.42 and Jeff Taylor was second in 1.09.47, 7th grader Spider Sandoval was second in 1.02.35 and 8th grade winners were Rachel Schaffner with 1.03.21 and Chris Bennett in 56.03. In the 800 meters 2nd grader Christian Stafford won in 3.39.40, 4th grader Mark Nagel won in 3.03.57, 6th grader Jeff Taylor was second with 2.40.16, Brittany Novacek, 8thgrade won in 2.55.07. In the mile run Kosmas Stocking won the 2nd grade mile in 7.19.19, 4thgraders Sophie Stocking won in 6.35.60 and Robert Knorr in 5.49.00, Kristin Bockover won the 6th grade mile in 6.21.88, 7th grader Darin Grandfield won in 5.56.90 and 8th grader Brittany Novacek won in 6.36.16.
In the field events Darryl Mullikin won the 4th grade long jump with an excellent leap of 13' 4", 5th graders Kelly Stevelak was second with 11' 5" and Martin Galindez won with 12' 5", 6th grader Jeff Taylor won with 15' 6" and Trista Cassella won the 8th grade with 13' 4". Brittany Farmer won the 6th grade softball throw with 87' 1/2". In the high jump 7th grader Sam Coperman won with 4' 0" and St Michael's 8th graders took first and second, Rachel Schaffner with 4' 8" and Stephanie Scheff with 4'2".
St Michael's athletes go to the qualifying meet next week with lots of confidence.
St. Michael's relay teams were especially strong. Eleven teams won, two were second and two were third. Winners in the 4x100 relay were the 4th grade boys in 1:01.87, 5th grade boys in 1:02.82. St Michael's swept the sixth, seventh and eighth grade events winning 6th grade girls and boys in 1:01.39 and 58.80, 7th grade girls and boys in 59.80 and 53.51 and 8th grade girls and boys in 57.13 and 51.37. Second place went to another 8th grade girls team with 59.18, and thirds went to the 3rd grade boys in 1:13.62 and 5th grade girls in 1:07.15. The 3rd grade girls team qualified as alternates. Three teams qualified for the sprint medley, the 7th grade boys winners with 2:02.06, 8th grade girls winners in 2:09.63 and a second 8th grade girls team in 2:16.40. Four of these 8th grade athletes, Brook Wilt, Katrina Fischer, Brittany and Linny Novecek then immediately ran a 4x400 relay and won in 5:02.85.
Qualifiers in the 50 meter heats were 2nd grader Andrea Gil who was second in 8.57, 4th graders Jacquelyn Cairel won in 8.01, Neil Spettel was third in 8.16 and Kendra Cover is the alternate, in 5th grade Jacob Farmer won with a time of 7.58. In the heats of 100 meters qualifiers were 2ndgraders Andrea Gil first with a time of 16.65, David Williams Jr. third in 18.14, 4th graders Jacquelyn Cairel second in 16.96, Darryl Mulliken second in 15.13 and Neil Spettel third in 15.77, 5th grader Jacob Farmer won with a time of 14.92 and Chris Simmons is the alternate, 6thgraders Brianna Scheff was second in 15.25, Frankie Garza was third in 14.86, and Richard Hudson II came in second in 14.19, 7th graders Sam Copeman was second in 14.67, Ozell Hudson II won in the time of 12.98, Todd Bernacil was second in 13.14 and Kris Couls is the alternate, 8thgrader Trista Cassella won in the time of 13.76, Khadijah Al-Faraj was third in 14.40, Scott Lassey was third in 13.33 and Chris Lewis is the alternate. Qualifying athletes in the 200 meters were 2nd grader David Williams Jr. who finished 1st in 34.28, 4th grader Darryl Mulliken winner in the time of 32.71 and Eric Stafford second in 34.80 , 6th grader Richard Hudson II who won in 29.25, and Frankie Garza second in 29.49, 1st place went to Brittany Farmer in 31.79, 7th grader Sam Copeman is the alternate and 1st place went to Todd Bernacil in 26.15, first place was earned by Rachel Schaffner in 28.06 and Trista Cassella was second in 28.06, Chris Bennett was first in the time of 24.73 and Scott Lassey was third in 26.42.
In the 400 meter 2nd grader Christian Stafford qualified in third place in 1.31.95, 4th grader Robert Knorr qualified first in the time of 1:19.00, 6th grader Kristyn Bockover was second in 1.14.16 and first place went to Jeff Taylor in 1:13.38, 7th grader Spider Sandoval won with a time of 1:02.01, Matt Bingaman was third in 1.10.21 and Rhine Ramirez is an alternate, 8th grader Rachel Schaffner won with a time of 1:06.52, and Brook Wilt was second in 1.09.76, Chris Bennett won with a time of 56.42. Qualifiers in the 800 meter heats were 4th grade 1st places went to Sophie Stocking in 3:02.97 and Derek Lyons with a time of 3:01.94, 7th graders Linus Schramski with 2:44.08, and 8th grader Brittany Novacek with a time of 2:49.53, 7th grader Julian Stocking was second in 3.40.68. Qualifiers in the 1600 meter mile heats were 2nd graders Kosmas Stocking second in 7.57.00 and winner Christian Stafford with a time of 7:24.00, 4th graders Kendra Cover was second in 7.21.44 and 1st place went to Sophie Stocking with 6:43.17. Robert Knorr won the 4th grade mile in 5:45.00, 6th grader Jeff Taylor was second in 6.02.40, and Kristyn Bockover won with 6:08.82, Maria DeYoreo is an alternate, 7th grader Katrina Fischer was second in 6.20.30 and Darin Grandfield won in 5:56.9, 8th graders Jamie Moody was third in 6.03.45 and Brittany Novacek is the alternate.
Qualifying athletes in the Long Jump were 2nd grader David Williams Jr. third was a jump of 9' 5 1/4", 3rd grader Drew Accornero is an alternate as is 4th grader Jacquelyn Cairel. Robert Knorr was second with 11' 11 1/2", and Darryl Mulliken was third with 11' 10 3/4", 5th graders Jacob Farmer was third with 12' 4" and Chris Simmons earned second with 12' 7 3/4", 6th grader Brittany Farmer was second with 12' 7 3/4", Brianna Scheff was third with 12' 6 3/4" and Kristyn Bockover is the alternate. Jeff Taylor won the 6th grade long jump with 13'10" as did 7th grader Todd Bernacil in 15'5", Kris Couls took second wit 15' 1/4" and 8th grader Trista Cassella won with 14' 4 3/4", Stephanie Scheff was third with 13' 3 1/2", Chris Lewis was third with 15' 2 1/2" and Scott Lassey was second with 15' 6" and Brook Wilt and Chris Bennett are alternates,. Qualifiers in the High Jump were winners 7th grader Sam Copeman at 4' 7" and 8th grader Rachel Schaffner at 5'1". Richard Hudson II and Stephanie Scheff are alternates. Athletes who qualified in the Shot Put were 6th grader Craig Spettel third with a throw of 21' 10" and winner Meghan Anderson with 23' 7 3/4", 7th grader Rhine Ramirez was second wit 30' 7", Linus Schramski was third with 29' 9", and first place went to Matt Bingaman with an excellent 37' 8", 8th grader Holly Gordon was third with 20' 2" and 1st place went to Crystal Young with 28' 8 1/2". Qualifying athletes in the soft ball throw were Brianna Scheff, 6th grade who was third with 71' 2", and the winner Brittany Farmer with 93'8", Rhine Ramirez finished first in the 7th grade softball throw with 129' 3". 4th grader Sophie Stocking and 6th grader Meghan Anderson are alternates.
Twelve St. Michael's relay teams qualified. In the 4x100 relay the 4th grade boys were second in 1:01.90, the 5th grade boys were fourth in 1:01.08, 6th grade girls were fourth in 1:00.92 and the boys were second in 58.92, 7th grade girls were third in 57.70 and the boys won in 51.86, 8th grade girls won in 55.83 and the boys were second in 51.05. Three teams qualified for the sprint medley, the 7thgrade boys were third with 2:00.39, 8th grade girls won in 2:08.54 and a second 8th grade girls team were third in 2:13.21. The 8th grade girls also qualified for the 4x400 relay coming in fourth in 5:17.89.
Qualifiers for the 50 meters were 2nd grader Andrea Gil, second in 8.35, 4th grader Neil Spettel third in 8.20 and 5th grader Jacob Farmer fourth in 8.01. In the 100 meters 6th grader Richard Hudson II was second in 13.93, 7th grader Ozell Hudson II won in the time of 13.39 and Todd Bernacil was third in 13.50, 8th grader Trista Cassella was second in 14.00. In the 200 meters 2nd grader David Williams Jr. was fourth in 35.64, 4th grader Darryl Mulliken was the winner in 31.75 , 6th grader Richard Hudson II won in 29.98, Frankie Garza was second in 30.15, and Brittany Farmer was fourth in 31.77, 7th grader Todd Bernacil won in 27.53, as did 8th grader Rachel Schaffner in 28.53 and Chris Bennett in 25.60. In the 400 meter 4th grader Robert Knorr qualified second in 1:10.74, 6th grader Jeff Taylor was third in 1:13.38, 7th grader Spider Sandoval was second with a time of 1:01.21, 8thgrader Rachel Schaffner won with a time of 1:03.09, Brook Wilt was third in 1.05.87 and Chris Bennett won with a new meet record of 54.97. Qualifiers in the 800 meters were 4th grader Sophie Stocking who was second in 2:56.01 and Derek Lyons fourth in 3:00.28, 7th grader Linus Schramski third in 2:36.86 and 8th grader Brittany Novacek second in 2:45.23. In the mile 4th grader Sophie Stocking was second with 6:25.68 and Robert Knorr won with a new meet record time of 5:42.25, 6thgrader Kristyn Bockover was second in 6.09.24, 7th grader Katrina Fischer was fourth in 6:02.29, 8thgrader Brittany Novacek was first in 6:14.42 and Holly Gordon was third in 7:52.23.
Qualifying athletes in the long jump were 4th grader Darryl Mullikin second with 12' 6 3/4", 6th grader Brittany Farmer second with 13' 6", 7th grader Kris Couls took second with 15' 0 "" and 8th graders Trista Cassella second with 13' 4" and Scott Lassey fourth with 15' 7". In the high jump 6th grader Richard Hudson II won with 4' 2", 7th grader Sam Copeman was third with 4' 4", and 8th graders Rachel Schaffner was third with 4' 6" and Stephanie Scheff fourth with 4' 4". Athletes who qualified in the shot put were 7th grader Matt Bingaman third with 35' 1 "" and 8th grader Crystal Young third with 29' 6 1/2".
Rachael Schaffner, an eighth grader, unbeaten all season at 200m and 400m, won the 200m in 27.33, the 400m in 1:00.6, the high jump with 4' 9" and anchored the 4 x 100m and sprint medley relays. Rachael's time in the 400m is one of the top ten times in California and bodes well for her High school aspirations. Robert Knorr, a fourth grader, dominated the metric mile in every meet this year. His disciplined, consistent, fast pace decimated his competition and his record of 5:36.00 in the metric mile will be hard to beat. Richard Hudson II sixth grader, won the 200m in 28.16 and was a member of the winning 4 x 100m relay. Other winners for St Michael's were the 7th grade 4x100m relay team in 52.01, 8th grader Chris Bennett in the 400m in 54.77 and Sam Copeman in the 7th grade high jump with 4' 9".
Other medal winners for St Michael's were Darryl Mullikin second in the 4th grade 200m and third in the long jump with 12' 9 3/4", Trista Cassella, third in the 8th grade 100m with 13.87, Todd Bernacil second in the 7th grade 200m and Chris Bennett second in the 8th grade 200m in 25.53. Kristyn Bockover was second with 6:03.00 in the metric mile and 8th grader Brittany Novacek was third in 5:59.00. In the 4x100 relay the 4th grade boys were third in 1:01.83 and in the sprint medley a second team of 8th grade girls were third in 2:12.00. The eight grade boys 4 x 100m team had to deal with a softball in their lane and despite requests from coaches the race was not rerun.
In the 50 meters 2nd grader Andrea Gil was fourth in 8.43, 4th grader Neil Spettel was sixth and 5thgrader Jacob Farmer fourth in 7.53. In the 100 meters 6th grader Richard Hudson II was fifth in 14.04, 7th grader Ozell Hudson II was fifth and Todd Bernacil was fourth. In the 200 meters Frankie Garza was fourth, and Brittany Farmer was fifth. In the 400 meters 4th grader Robert Knorr was fourth, 6th grader Jeff Taylor was fifth in 1:07.00 and 7th grader Spider Sandoval was fifth. Sophie Stocking was fourth in the 4th grade 800 meters with 2:55.90. Trista Cassella, eighth grade was fifth in the long jump with 12' 9" and in the shot put 7th grader Matt Bingaman was fourth with 34' 0" and 8th grader Crystal Young fourth with 28' 8". In the high jump Stephanie Scheff was fifth with 3' 10".
